“I feel a sense of responsibility towards nature and future generations – we need to look after the forests and manage them sustainably.”

Tomas believes in active management of the forest with the aim of producing high quality timber. He also believes that he has a responsibility to take care of the biodiversity of his forests. Therefore, he is actively restoring some areas with broad-leaved trees, next to a stream where there is an abundance of both trout and freshwater pearl mussels (a red-listed species). In this context FSC provides a good balance, and therefore Tomas joined a group certificate.

Tomas inherited forest land from his father, which is in Gästrikland, two hours north of Stockholm. Today Tomas lives with his family in a suburb outside of Stockholm and commutes to his work in the city centre. He is the Director of the Zoological Department at Skansen (an outdoor museum and zoo), so he is still connected to nature in his daily work.
