Workers reap rewards in a sawmill in Gabon
In the forest of Gabon, two FSC-certified sawmills employ hundreds of workers, putting food on their tables and creating a brighter future for those that work in the forest. The sawmill supplies FSC-certified timber products to countries all around the world, mainly from the species Okumé, which is used for some of the world’s finest plywood. About 2,500 trees pass through here every month.
To the owners of the sawmill, FSC certification means a high focus on workers’ safety and rights as well as access to an attractive market demanding sustainable sourcing. Waste wood from the production is used to generate electricity.
